Guided tour 'Beloved'

For groups (adults)

‘Beloved. An intimate look at masterpieces' is more than an exhibition of extraordinary works of art, such as Bruegel's 'Mag Meg'. The exhibition also tells the story of 43 museum lovers who have a connection with a particular work of art. This guided tour focuses on the museum's masterpieces and highlights some personal stories.

In the late 19th century, Antwerp local Fritz Mayer van den Bergh built up an impressive collection of some 3,000 art objects. He sadly died at the age of just 43. After his death, his mother Henriëtte made his dream come true: she had a small, homely museum built next to the family residence to house his breathtaking collection.

Museum Mayer van den Bergh is currently closed for major renovations. In the meantime, part of the collection is on display at the nearby Maagdenhuis. For the 'Beloved' exhibition, we invited 43 museum lovers to choose a piece they feel connected to – something that evokes a memory, feeling, or experience.

This guided tour for adults focuses on the highlights of the Mayer van den Bergh collection. From Pieter Bruegel’s 'Mad Meg' and stunning portraits to medieval sculptures and decorative art objects, you’ll discover the museum’s incredibly rich and varied collection. The guide also highlights a few personal stories from the exhibition.
