Sample real Chinese tea in a unique setting 

Henriëtte van den Bergh, mother of the collector Fritz Mayer van den Bergh and the museum's founder, enjoyed treating her guests to a cup of tea. Inspired by Henriëtte, a tea sommelier will receive you for an authentic tea ceremony.

Tea sommelier Ann Vansteenkiste offers you a taste of Chinese tea, served according to the appropriate etiquette. She receives you in the lounge, the place where Henriëtte herself received many guests and served them tea. Sit down, relax and enjoy the fragrance and flavour of tea in a unique setting.

Practical information  

Tea ceremony  

  • Saturday 22 and 29 March, Friday 25 April: always from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm  
  • Museum Mayer van den Bergh: Lange Gasthuisstraat 19, 2000 Antwerp    
  • Price: €12 + ticket for the museum (see costs of entrance ticket)  
  • Wear practical clothes. The tea ceremony is attended with bare feet or in socks.

Say goodbye to Museum Mayer van den Bergh

From Sunday 27 April 2025, the museum will close for several years for a major restoration and expansion. Of course, we won't let this go unnoticed! Tea ceremony, family workshop or a last tête-à-tête with Mad Meg in today's atmospheric setting? Choose from dozens of activities taking place from 22 March to 26 April and say goodbye to the museum in your own way.
