A free workshop without booking and where you can also get to know the future museum? Pop into Hof van Arenberg (the corner building next to the museum) and let your creativity run wild.
Complete your tableware with a Bruegel-style plate
Museum Mayer van den Bergh is the only museum in Flanders where you can admire two paintings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder: Mad Meg and Twelve Proverbs on plates. The latter is not actually a painting, but a series of 12 painted dining plates with an equal number of special proverbs.
During this creative workshop, you make your personalised dining plate. The museum provides fragments, figures and details from the collection. Choose a vintage plate and … get cutting & pasting! Mad Meg holding a bunch of flowers? Check! A monstrous creature with false eyelashes? It's your plate. Ready? You can take your plate home in a lovely box. Take it home and bake it in the oven, then you'll even be able to eat from it!
